Jack Hanks began his career in oil and gas as an attorney with Pennzoil in Houston, later joining Pierson Semmes and then becoming a partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss. Over thirteen years in Washington, D.C., he represented major energy companies including United Gas Pipeline, Northwest Energy, and Mapco before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on natural gas transmission, crude oil products pipeline litigation, and ratemaking matters.
In 1986 he returned to Dallas to establish Maple Resources Corporation, investing in and operating oil and gas facilities. Maple and its affiliates completed nine acquisitions covering production interests in more than 450 wells across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Utah, along with processing and transmission systems. That included acquiring two U.S. companies from Cabot Corporation, adding ten gas processing plants with roughly 300 MMcfd of capacity and approximately 1,287 kilometers of gathering and transmission infrastructure.
In 1992, Maple sold substantially all of its U.S. assets and turned to international energy development, winning an international tender held by the Government of Peru for the Aguaytia gas fields. He led development of the Aguaytia Project, an integrated natural gas production, power generation, and transmission project, and directed Maple’s Peruvian refining, pipeline, processing, and fractionation operations for twenty-five years.
Since 2017 his focus has been the development of refining and hydrogen projects in Pecos County, Texas.
